Colorado Mountain Girls Getaway

Sometimes, you just have to get out of town. When you need a change of scenery. When you’re going through something rough. When you want to explore a new place, meet new people, or take an adventure. This past weekend, I traveled with one of my oldest friends (we’ve know each other since we were 12!!!!) to visit another friend who lives in Denver. And it was just what the doctor and the soul ordered. Adrienne is the perfect hostess. She planned a wonderful weekend full of hiking, exploring, eating (a lot ), and great catching up time. My favorite things about this trip were:

–Time reminiscing with Helen about our 25 (!!!!!!) year friendship

–Great conversation with Adrienne on a cool night in a steamy hot tub that we couldn’t quite figure out how to work

–All the food that we ate (delicious eggs benedict at Mona’s, reuben-spiced meatloaf and a fried avocado appetizer at Twist, salted caramel ice cream deliciousness in downtown Breckenridge, and duck confit and goat cheese agnolotti at Trattoria Stella.

–The fantastic “hostel” that Adrienne found online. The Bivouac (also known as The Bivvi) is a classically rustic, mountain-chic, comfortably friendly place to stay for a very reasonable price. And thanks to Bond for the amazing scrambled egg breakfast with fruit, yogurt, granola, toast, and sausage. The fire pit and hot tub certainly didn’t hurt.

–Exploring downtown Breckenridge–all the shops, art galleries, restaurants, and cool historical elements made it really fun. Picked up some elk jerky too 🙂

–The amazing hike we took up Boreas Pass–incredible views, the blooming aspens, and cold water running down from the snow capped peaks.

–Meeting up with my high school friend Deirdre who also lives in Denver.

–Sleeping on the top bunk

–Eating delicious turkey sandwiches from Park & Main by the fast-moving Blue River

Here are some more photographs of our adventure.
